A strong northwesterly flow hit the Alps last Friday
and caused persistent rainfall until Sunday afternoon. The snow line mostly fluctuated between 500 and 1000 meters, and in the western Alps it rose to over 1500 meters in the final phase of the event.
Between Friday afternoon and Sunday midday, 40 to 80 cm, and locally up to 100 cm, fell in the Vaud, Valais and Bernese Alps above around 1400 meters, and in the Central Alps above around 1000 meters.
